Bench 04 / Device fleet

Nobody patches hardware that never made it onto the register.

This is the housekeeping bench: what hardware exists, what condition it is in, which destinations it may reach and who is looking at it. Four lines take in the Linux and Windows estate, the Apple kit, and whichever handsets your people genuinely read mail on.

The register comes first, because everything rests on it

Patch level, missing agents, disks about to fail, machines that stopped reporting: every one of those questions assumes a document that says what you own, and says it accurately today rather than in the year it was written. N-able N-sight compiles and keeps that document, and the rest of this bench reads from it.

Filtering travels on that identical agent. Nothing goes into a rack, nothing wants re-pointing when the office turns out to be a dozen kitchen tables, and reporting takes in browser and programmatic traffic alike, private windows included.

An accurate register of what you own is the cheapest control anybody sells, and it is not sold as security.

Apple kit and handsets, measured identically

Apple kit complains less, which gets mistaken for having fewer faults. Addigy carries profile and compliance across macOS and iOS, which puts the Apple half of an estate onto exactly the instruments used everywhere else.

Zimperium takes the handsets. Its judgement forms on the handset itself, which is why a hotel network run by nobody in particular changes nothing. Given how many approvals now happen by phone, keeping phones off the register stopped being defensible some years back.

Remote Monitoring and Management

Across the estate, by N-able N-sight

An accurate register of hardware, its condition and its patch level, together with management of the tablets and handsets. After this line, how many machines have we got stops being a question anyone has to guess at.

  • Condition, inventory and patch level visible for every managed machine.
  • Scripting and remote hands without anybody walking to a desk.
  • Handsets and tablets run from whichever account already holds the laptops.
Runs onMachines under Linux, macOS or Windows, plus mobile devices
Reacts toPatch drift, failed jobs, hardware gone quiet
Shelved forEstates nobody currently holds a complete register for

Web and DNS Filtering

Web protection, by N-able N-sight

Filtering travels with the agent already installed. No box goes in a rack, and nothing needs re-pointing when half your people are working from a kitchen table in another county.

  • Browser and programmatic web activity both visible, private windows included.
  • Destinations, categories, reputations and bandwidth reported for each device.
  • Policy rides along when a laptop walks out of the building.

Reacts toLookups toward categories and reputations you ruled out
Shelved forEstates that work anywhere except the office

Apple Fleet Management

macOS and iOS held by Addigy

Profiles enforced, compliance measured, and Apple hardware measured by the standard applied everywhere else on the floor. Quieter hardware is not better behaved hardware; it is hardware nobody has measured.

  • Profile enforcement and compliance checks for macOS and iOS.
  • Enrolment that outlives a rebuild instead of relying on memory.
  • Apple hardware reported beside the rest of the register, not filed apart.
Runs onmacOS and iOS hardware
Reacts toConfiguration wandering off the profile you approved

Fortify-MobileCell

Mobile Threat Defense

On Android and iOS, by Zimperium

Protection sitting on the handset itself. Payment approvals and password resets happen on phones now, which makes a phone part of the estate whether or not anyone has written it into the register.

  • Cover against malicious software, phishing and risky applications.
  • Judgement forms on the handset, so a hostile network alters nothing.
  • Findings arrive at the same desk as everything else in this catalog.

Reacts toHostile networks, malicious apps, phishing on the handset

Where this bench stops

Housekeeping has edges. These are the four lines' edges, stated where you can find them.

  • Upkeep is not watching. Machines are held in a known condition here. Weighing conduct, and picking up the telephone at three in the morning, belongs to Bench 01, and even a beautifully patched machine wants both of those.
  • Filtering works on categories. Names, categories and reputations are the material. A domain registered this morning that nobody has classified yet will still resolve, which is exactly why this is one control among several.
  • Enrolment is the edge. A machine outside the register is outside everything here. Personal hardware doing company work is a decision for you before it is a line from us.
  • Updates occasionally break work. We stage and test wherever a platform allows it, and we will say plainly when a vendor release is the culprit. Promising that no update ever breaks anything would be a lie with a short shelf life.
  • Platforms set the mobile limits. Apple and Google decide what any management profile is permitted to see and do. We work inside those rules rather than implying we have a way around them.
